Louis XV Playing Cards

Created in the 1890s under Georges Marteau, the Louis XV deck was designed for Parisian salons, evoking the opulence of King Louis XV’s court. Marteau entrusted artist Jules Habert-Dys, a pioneer of Art Nouveau, whose flowing lines, floral motifs, and refined portraits defined the deck’s unique aesthetic. Printed in chromolithography, it introduced the dolphin blue and coral red accents that became Grimaud’s signature.

Grimaud pioneered innovations such as rounded corners and gilded edges, ensuring both beauty and durability. Today, the Louis XV deck returns in its original Whist format, with every detail recreated by leading French artisans, from illustration to embossing and packaging crafted in Paris’s Bastille district.
